National stereotyping, part 472: this implies that the Russian speakers are the cheerful ones

At long last, there’s a song in Ukrainian in the charts (in Ukraine, obviously). Тепла зима / Tepla zyma by Скрябін / Scriabin (not the composer, one does wonder what he’d make of all of this and, indeed, everything that’s happened in his neck of the woods since his death in 1915). Tepla zyma translates as ‘warm winter’ (or, indeed, ‘gay winter’, but I doubt this is the right translation here), and, let’s be honest, is 95% zima, 5% tepla:

Those of you who’ve ever listened to Polish or Slovak radio will not be surprised by the general moodiness.
